The moon rose slowly, full and bright,
Over the forest that fateful night.
Not a creature stirred, not a rustle of leaves,
Apart from a lone figure, stood beneath the trees.
It began to move, silent and cold,
As the chill from the wind took its hold.
It stepped into the moonlight, then stood still,
Collapsed to the ground as though it were ill.
It looked to the moon, and the light hit its face,
Her skin was pure white and delicate as lace.
Long black hair reached down her back,
In her eyes she was lost, so far off track.
A single tear rolled down her soft cheek,
For she knew that her prospects were bleak.
She knew she was lost, but not in the woods,
But in the life she had eternally withstood.
Now enough was enough, she couldn’t take anymore,
Blade in hand, another tear hit the floor.
Handle clasped tight held to her chest,
She knew what was about to be done, was for the best.
She took one last moment to look around,
And prepared herself for the fate she was bound.
Now if you enter the forest when the moons full and bright,
You will be guided through the forest at night.
To the place where she died, where her blood was shed,
Where her life departed, and her soul fled.
But you won’t see anything, the grounds remains bare,
Almost as if nothing happened there.
But you were drawn to that spot by the way the wind blows,
Because she will forever be…..
The Moonlight Shadow
